ramblings of a m/m romance author

A to Z

Zach Mitchell is stuck in a rut. His college boyfriend left him ten years ago, but Zach still lives in the same AtoZ_pr3apartment, drives the same car, and feeds his ex-boyfriend’s ungrateful cat. His Denver business, A to Z Video Rental, is struggling. He has annoying customers, eccentric neighbors, and an un-fulfilling romance with his landlord, Tom.

A combat boot-wearing punk with an attitude, Angelo Green was raised in foster homes and has been on his own since he was sixteen; he has never learned to trust or to love. He doesn’t do relationships, so when Angelo takes a job at A to Z Video, he decides Zach is strictly off-limits.

Despite their differences, Zach and Angelo quickly become friends, and when Zach’s break-up with Tom puts his business on the line, it’s Angelo who comes up with a solution. Together with Jared and Matt, their friends from Coda, Colorado, Zach and Angelo will find a way to save A to Z, but will they be able to save each other too?

*****

A to Z is a tie-in to Promises.

  • Is this a sequel?  No, not technically, because Jared and Matt are secondary characters.  But it does take place the year after Promises.
  • Do you have to read Promises first?  Not at all, but A to Z will spoil a couple of small things for you.

I find Angelo character irritating, and totally dislike him after that scene where he has punched Matt and kicked Jared. These guys should not have been hurt for trying to be helpful.
“The Letter Z” was less irritating because Angelo didn’t hurt anybody physically. I read that first before “A to Z.” I don’t want to see his childish outburst again in “Strawberries for Dessert.”

Actually, Angelo did punch Jonathan in TLZ. He has a bit of a temper. But he won’t show up in SfD, I promise. :-)

    Dear Marie,

Yesterday night had finished A to Z just in two days after Promises… it had been the same amazing story. The next is The letter Z I suppose now. :) Two days is a new record for me thanks to you.

As I live in Italy, I have make one remark about A to Z: lasagna is not made of noodles, actually any of Italian food is made of noodles. :) Just in case if you are going to republish it the future.

    Thank you again,

    Best regards,
    Dmitri

p.s. you must write with the same speed as I read :)
p.p.s. now must buy A to Z either in hard copy to put on the shelf of my library or start to buy the hard copies only. :)

I just forgot to write that I just loved the expression: “Four fags watchin’ football. Must be pretty fuckin’ cold in hell right now”! It made me much laugh at that moment… It become my most favorite one now! :)

      Good luck!

Dmitri, I’m so glad you liked A to Z! I’m not sure I can write as fast you’ve been reading, though. LOL.
And I’ll be sure to let Zach know about those noodles! :-)
      Thanks again!

    Hello again, Ms. Sexton

I’ve finally gotten around to reading “A to Z”. I’ve also just had to put the book down because I was on the verge of tears while surrounded by a gazillion people milling all around me at the the neighbourhood Starbucks.

I finished reading the scene which begins with Angelo returning to Zach’s apartment very, very late at night and Zach climbs out of bed and kneels in front of Angelo and asks, “I can’t even say that I wish you were here?”… The whole exchange that follows utterly breaks my heart and I just had to put the book down right after reading that. That has to be about the most emotionally wrenching scene I’ve ever read in an m/m romance novel and believe me, in the last few weeks, I’ve read many. You’ve captured so beautifully the messiness of love, the conflicted nature of it, the contrariness of it, its vexatiousness, its elusivness, its allure, its promise, and its potential for transformation.

What a brilliant gift your writing is, and how incredibly lucky we all are to partake of it.

    Arnel.

Just finished reading this book and though it was wonderful. I loved the characters of Zach and Angelo and was very surprised to see Jared and Matt in the book.. A very nice surprise I may add. I loved everything about this book. I’m not one for alot of sex in books, and this book had just the right amount. AWESOME!!!!

I was also surprised there is a sequel to the book The Letter Z which I am almost finished with.

Thanks Gary! I’m so glad you liked it. I’m actually working right now (this very minute!) on the third (and possibly final) book for Zach and Angelo. I just need those voices in my head to keep talking. Cross your fingers for me!

Thanks Johanna! I’m so glad you liked it. Not sure if/when The Letter Z will be published, but you’ll get to see more of all four guys in that one. Thanks again!

A to Z is awesome! I think its even better than Promises. Zach and Ang are incredible characters and the story is very realistic. Zach can be so clueless, but also so loving and caring. I wish I could find a real life Zach. Ang’s conflicted emotions and feelings were portrayed very well.

I can’t wait for more books from Marie. Cockaigne sounds very promising, I hope to see it soon!!

      Gilly -
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed them. The Vegas story is now called The Letter Z, and it was SO fun to write. It’s been submitted to DSP, so if they accept it, it won’t be free. :-) But it’s shorter than the others so will be less expensive.
      Thanks again!

    Hi Marie

Just finished your book Promises in one day yesterday, and found it wonderful. Really enjoyed the characters, and how you took the time throughout the book to get to the nittty gritty. My first thought was that I wish there was a sequel and now I see your future book A to Z might just fit the bill. Thank you again for a fabulous book.
