Happy New Year!

Holiday Recipe

Happy Holidays! I hope the season finds you all well and happy! I missed Saturday Snark last week, and again this week. Sorry about that. This time of year is so hectic! I’m sure you can all relate.

Anyway…

Years ago, my family decided to do away with the big Christmas dinner. It was too much like Thanksgiving. Instead, we do a big brunch on Christmas. My daughter (who is the only child in the entire family) gets her Santa gifts first thing in the morning, and then we stuff ourselves with brunch and coffee and mimosas, and then we open the rest of our gifts. Today, I thought I’d share my recipe for Stuffed French Toast. I’ve adapted this from a recipe in my favorite cookbook, Colorado Collage.

  • Giant loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese
  • 12 eggs
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 can pie filling (whichever type you prefer)

Grease 13×9 inch baking pan. Place half of the bread crumbs evenly over the bottom of the pan. Spread softened cream cheese over bread (or, cut chilled cream cheese into cubes and scatter over the layer of bread). Top with the can of pie filling (my family prefers blueberry, but we’ve also used cherry and raspberry, and I’m sure it would be fabulous with peach). Arrange remaining bread cubes over the top.

In large bowl, combine eggs, milk and maple syrup. Whisk to blend. Pour evenly over bread in the baking dish. Cover with foil and chill overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, covered with foil, for 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking 30 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Serve with your favorite syrup.

I’m going to add a blog hop widget below. I’d love to see everybody’s favorite holiday recipes. Even if it’s a post you put up ages ago, please share it in the Linky Tool below.

However you celebrate this time of year, I hope it’s full of love and joy and all things good! Merry Christmas!

Random Randomness

I wanted to let everybody know about a few events I have coming up. I’d love to have you all join me for as many of them as you can!

First of all, a couple of chats on Beth Wylde’s group. It’s here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bethwylde/

The first one is Friday, December 9th. That will be a big group of authors from Amber Quill Press. The next one is Sunday, December 11th. Technically, that day was booked by ZA Maxfield, but she’s invited a few of us to join her. I’m not sure who all will be there, but Heidi and I will be, at the very least, and there will be prizes. The last one is at the same group on Wednesday, December 28th. It will be all day. Authors who are planning to be there (in addition to myself and Heidi) are: Ethan Stone, ZA Maxfield, Ellis Carrington, Amy Lane, SA Meade, Kate McMurray, Clare London, ML Rhodes, and Andrew Grey. Again, there will be prizes.

We really hope to CHAT with readers at these events, not just bombard you with excerpts (although I’m sure we’ll have those as well), so please stop in at any point during the day and say hello.

December 29-January 6th, Chris over at Stumbling Over Chaos will be giving away a copy of my upcoming release Blind Space.

From January 2nd through January 16th, I’ll be doing a blog hop with 14 other authors. The current schedule (subject to change) is:

Jan 2: TA Chase
Jan 3: Julia Knight
Jan 4: LA Witt
Jan 5th: Freddy MacKay
Jan 6th: Marie Sexton
Jan 7th: JP Bowie
Jan 8th: Megan Slayer
Jan 9th: Amber Kell
Jan 10th: JP Barnaby
Jan 11th: Sue Holston
Jan 12th: Simone Anderson
Jan 13th: Kit Sands
Jan 14th: EM Woods
Jan 15th: Devon Rhodes
January 16th: Sara York

Again, we’ll have tons of prizes. BIG prizes. I’ll post more info here when we get closer to the date, but please keep us on your radar, because we’ll be giving away some great things. On Wednesday, January 4th, this same group of authors will be hosting a chat at the Love Romances Cafe, noon to 5:00 EST. It’s here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LoveRomancesCafe/

And… you guessed it: PRIZES!

On January 11th, I’ll also be a guest on Lisabet Sarai’s blog.

The week of January 23-27 is the 1 year birthday bash for Coffee and Porn in the Morning. We have a great event lined up for that. Not just prizes, but a bunch of great FREE fiction from a rather impressive group of authors. You really don’t want to miss it.

Then, in February, Heidi, Ethan and I all have releases, and Heidi’s putting together another blog tour. But that’s still just in the conceptual stage, so I’ll stop there.

For releases, Blind Space will be released by Silver Publishing on January 7th. You can pre-order it now by going here. Cinder, my fun little CinderFella tale, is tentatively scheduled for release by Silver on February 4th.

And now, because this post is depressingly short of naked men, I give you this:

And because I double-clicked and uploaded two photos, I suppose I might as well share them both. ;-)

Amber Kell’s November Birthday Extravaganza

Today, I have Amber Kell visiting my blog. Amber is doing all kinds of fun things this month to celebrate her birthday. She’s also giving away tons of prizes. One of her November treats is a free story, broken into 30 parts. Follow the icon above back to her blog for details. I’ve linked it to the November 1st post, so you can start there if you need to see the first installments. This is part 17 of her free story, Accidental Alpha. Be sure to check Amber’s blog through the month so you can get the rest of the story!

My contest:

To enter, answer these three questions:

1. Which of my books won second place for Contemporary Gay Romance in the 2010 Rainbow Awards?

2. Which of my stories takes place in the Vietnam era?

3. Which of my stories involves a lost shoe?

(I promise that all of the answers can easily be found by browsing my book pages.)

Send your answers in an email to mariesexton0@gmail.com. (That’s a zero, not an “O”.) I’ll put all the correct answers into a hat and draw three winners.

One winner will receive their choice of THREE titles from my backlist. Two others will be chosen to receive their choice of ONE title from my backlist.

If the winner happens to have already read all of my work, I will rain-check you copies of my two upcoming stories, Blind Space and Cinder.

Please feel free to email me or leave a comment if you have any questions. Good luck!

[Contest is now closed. Thanks to everybody who participated!]

Guest Blogger: Mercy Celeste

First, and foremost, thank you Marie for kindly having me guest today, I do so enjoy your blog(s) for the yummy goodness you post and your book, Promises is one of my faves and on the keeper list.

Good morning from the swamp. My house is or rather was in a nice little subdivision with brick houses and SUVs, sidewalks, and a cul-de-sac but not anymore. Somehow, over the weekend a swamp managed to appear in my backyard thanks to TS Lee. If an alligator comes walking by (and that has happened before) I am so leaving for dry land. I hear Texas is quite nice right now. Are there gators in Texas? Frankly speaking, gators are interesting creatures. Beautiful in a pre-historic sort of way, as long as they do not decide to trudge through your back yard. It was a baby gator, bigger than my cat, but still a baby, with teeth. Big teeth.

However, that’s not what I wanted to talk about today. The sun is out, for the first time since Thursday and the swamp will dry up in a day or two (I hope) and everything will be back to normal. Well, as normal as can be when you live in a place where alligators can and do walk through your yard. Today, I want to talk about my book. Yes, I’m a writer. Don’t look at me like that, what else would I be? I once saw Bigfoot and the house I grew up in was haunted by three distinct spirits. And one poltergeist who liked to steal my fundraising candy. Could have been my brother, I won’t swear it wasn’t but I couldn’t catch him at it so it had to be a ghost of some sort right? Right. Glad we cleared that up. Yes, I am a writer of romantic-ish fiction and I’ve written a beautiful book, well, I’ve written about seventeen beautiful books, but I’m going to focus on my second (really my fourth but that’s another story) published as Mercy Celeste. Wicked Game.

Wicked Game is a contemporary boy meets girl erotic romance. Just one boy and one girl. I have to clarify that because my first book as Mercy is a ménage, and then I had two M/M books, which sadly are no longer available and my next book in October Behind Iron Lace will be an M/M. Wicked Game is a straight romance. Set in Miami. And the hero is a quarterback in the NFL, who is getting ready to take his team to the Super Bowl (And stop looking at me like that I know they don’t have a chance in heck this is fiction, remember that). His name is Jamison Dalton. He goes by Jay or Jaime, or Lord Ironman. He is a bit narcissistic, just a tad bit. Enough to make him a great football player. But then there is Pepper. Or rather Cassandra Pendleton. Cass and Jaime go all the way back to kindergarten. He pulled her hair and she never forgave him. To say that Cass and Jaime do not get along is to say that Alabama and Auburn fans can sit in a sports bar on Iron Bowl game day and there not be name-calling. Oil and water, fire and ice. It’s what they are. It’s what they’ve always been. Right up until Jaime decides hiring Cass as his personal assistant is a good idea. He just wants someone to handle his business without wanting to handle his business. He forgot how much a trial Cass can be. Now he can’t think of anything except handling her business. It’s quite disconcerting and distracting. A Super Bowl ring hangs in the balance. Or his everlasting happiness. But he might have to give up one to get the other. What’s a boy to do?

Wicked Game available now. And I’m Mercy Celeste. Thanks for letting me tell you about my book. Sorry about the gators, okay not so much. And yes there are alligators in WG. Just so you know.

Mercy
