Upcoming Events

This Wednesday, December 28th, I’ll be hosting a chat at Beth Wylde’s Yahoo group. It’s scheduled for all day. Authors who will be stopping in throughout the day are: Heidi Cullinan, Ethan Stone, ZA Maxfield, Ellis Carrington, Clare London, Amy Lane, SA Meade, Kate McMurray, Andrew Grey, JP Barnaby, Rowan Speedwell, ML Rhodes, and Josephine Myles. There might be others as well. Frankly, I’ve lost track. :-)  We’d love to have a chance to talk to our readers. We’ll have some prizes as well, so please stop in and say hello at any point during the day. You can find the group here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bethwylde/

Also, starting next Monday, I’ll be embarking on a two-week blog tour with several other authors. We’ll be giving away tons of prizes, including a grand total of $300 in Amazon gift cards. You can find details here. (Please note, I’m in the process of adding all the info to that page. There’s not a lot there now, but by the time the tour starts next week, I promise it will be complete.)

Please stop by on Wednesday, and follow along on our tour. I look forward to seeing you all out and about the blogosphere.

Happy Holidays!

Random Randomness

I wanted to let everybody know about a few events I have coming up. I’d love to have you all join me for as many of them as you can!

First of all, a couple of chats on Beth Wylde’s group. It’s here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bethwylde/

The first one is Friday, December 9th. That will be a big group of authors from Amber Quill Press. The next one is Sunday, December 11th. Technically, that day was booked by ZA Maxfield, but she’s invited a few of us to join her. I’m not sure who all will be there, but Heidi and I will be, at the very least, and there will be prizes. The last one is at the same group on Wednesday, December 28th. It will be all day. Authors who are planning to be there (in addition to myself and Heidi) are: Ethan Stone, ZA Maxfield, Ellis Carrington, Amy Lane, SA Meade, Kate McMurray, Clare London, ML Rhodes, and Andrew Grey. Again, there will be prizes.

We really hope to CHAT with readers at these events, not just bombard you with excerpts (although I’m sure we’ll have those as well), so please stop in at any point during the day and say hello.

December 29-January 6th, Chris over at Stumbling Over Chaos will be giving away a copy of my upcoming release Blind Space.

From January 2nd through January 16th, I’ll be doing a blog hop with 14 other authors. The current schedule (subject to change) is:

Jan 2: TA Chase
Jan 3: Julia Knight
Jan 4: LA Witt
Jan 5th: Freddy MacKay
Jan 6th: Marie Sexton
Jan 7th: JP Bowie
Jan 8th: Megan Slayer
Jan 9th: Amber Kell
Jan 10th: JP Barnaby
Jan 11th: Sue Holston
Jan 12th: Simone Anderson
Jan 13th: Kit Sands
Jan 14th: EM Woods
Jan 15th: Devon Rhodes
January 16th: Sara York

Again, we’ll have tons of prizes. BIG prizes. I’ll post more info here when we get closer to the date, but please keep us on your radar, because we’ll be giving away some great things. On Wednesday, January 4th, this same group of authors will be hosting a chat at the Love Romances Cafe, noon to 5:00 EST. It’s here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LoveRomancesCafe/

And… you guessed it: PRIZES!

On January 11th, I’ll also be a guest on Lisabet Sarai’s blog.

The week of January 23-27 is the 1 year birthday bash for Coffee and Porn in the Morning. We have a great event lined up for that. Not just prizes, but a bunch of great FREE fiction from a rather impressive group of authors. You really don’t want to miss it.

Then, in February, Heidi, Ethan and I all have releases, and Heidi’s putting together another blog tour. But that’s still just in the conceptual stage, so I’ll stop there.

For releases, Blind Space will be released by Silver Publishing on January 7th. You can pre-order it now by going here. Cinder, my fun little CinderFella tale, is tentatively scheduled for release by Silver on February 4th.

And now, because this post is depressingly short of naked men, I give you this:

And because I double-clicked and uploaded two photos, I suppose I might as well share them both. ;-)

2 Years!

When I sold Promises to Dreamspinner Press, my husband had my contract and my advance check framed. I was just looking at them, and realized it’s been two years, almost to the day. It was November 8th, 2009 that I signed my first publishing contract. What an amazing, crazy, rewarding, wonderful, enlightening, scary as hell, sometimes overwhelming, but worth every second, two years it’s been. Thanks to all of you have bought the books, read the books, loved (or hated) the books. Thanks to everybody who’s emailed, left a comment on my site or on my FB page. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Here’s to year 3!

Securing the Meadow

My muse no longer trusts me.

That is the great truth I’ve recently come to accept.

Now, to explain it all, I need to back up, because although authors often talk about their muses, the truth is, I’d never given much attention to mine. I’d never put a face to it. I never really even acknowledged it. And in ignoring it, and ignoring the environment in which it lived, I very nearly lost it.

Blog Hop Winners

Thanks to everybody who participated in my Bewitching Trick or Treat Blog Hop contest!

My grand prize winner is Kerrita. The two runner-up winners are Kaetrin and Adara. Ladies, I’ll be contacting you by email about claiming your prizes.

Also, I have an interview up today at Coffee Time Romance & More.

I’m also supposed to be participating in NaNo for the first time ever, and since it’s November 1st, I better get my backside in gear. Have a great day!

GayRomLit

(Joined at the hip at GayRomLit) ;-)

I have now returned from GayRomLit, and oh my god, it was SO much fun! For those of you who missed it, I hope you’ll be able to join us next year in Albuquerque. For a full rundown, go here. That’s the beginning of the trip, but you can scroll through the posts right up until the end.

For the past few months, I’ve been draggin my feet. I could give you this really long story about Heidi, and tarot readings, and a recurring goddess theme. I could tell you about my oracle cards, and what they meant to me. But really, it probably doesn’t matter to anybody but me. The short version is this: for the last few weeks, I have been trying to be open to opportunity. I have tried to be alert for new and exciting options. And the fact is, I think I’ve found them. Or maybe, they’ve found me.

First, a friend I’ve known since junior high challenged me to take part in NaNoWriMo for the first time ever. A also had a great conversation with my Total E-Bound editor in New Orleans, and so my plan right now is to tackle an Oestend spinoff in November.

Second, a couple of weeks ago, I sent Cinder to Rowan Speedwell to beta-read. She gave me some excellent feedback. That feedback led to a conversation about her history degree (I have one, too, but I specialized in Cold War, which just doesn’t make for great romance) and her love of the SCA. I told her of the historical m/m project I’ve secretly longed to write for the last two years, but confessed that I’m too lazy to do the research. We talked more on the train to New Orleans, and we decided to see if we could write this project together. Rowan is doing NaNo as well, so we’re aiming to tackle this project in December. Ambitious, aren’t we?

Finally, I had a talk with Anel Viz at GayRomLit. It’s sort of a long story, but the short version is that something he said gave me renewed impetus to tackle The Chicago Project. Our plan all along was to pick this project back up at the first of the year, and we have (at least loosely) recommitted to that plan.

So, three projects in three months. And that doesn’t even count the one I’m currently writing. Am I insane? Possibly, yes. Will I succeed at all of these? Possibly not. But I am excited about them all, and I think that counts for something. I should also add that I’m scheduled to have surgery on November 4th. On one hand, it might wear me out. On the other hand, I have a perfectly good excuse for sitting on my ass for several weeks afterward. I may as well spend them writing.

Quick Update

Just a quick little update.

First of all, I’ve sold two stories to Silver Publishing in the past couple of months. Blind Space is my space pirate story, and it is tentatively scheduled for release in early January. The second story is Cinder. I have no idea when it will be released. I’m guessing March, but that really is nothing more than a guess.

Second, I leave on Monday for GayRomLit in New Orleans! For those of you who will be there, I can’t wait to meet you! For everybody else, please make sure you stay tuned to mine and Heidi’s official HaMEMA website for lots of fun updates and photos.

Saturday Snark will continue while I’m on my trip, so make sure you stop by and check that out.

And now, I shall leave you with this:

Enjoy!

Meet an Author Monday

Hello, and welcome to my site! For those who are following the Meet an Author blog hop, let me introduce myself. I’m Marie Sexton, author of gay romance. I live in beautiful Colorado. I’m an animal lover, a football fan, a total sap, and a bit of a cheese fanatic.

Most of my work is part of loosely-connected Coda series.

Mountain bikers, grumpy cops, playboys, workaholics, slackers and ex-street punks with commitment problems–what do they all have in common?

They all have a place in Coda, Colorado, the tiny town with the spectacular scenery–and the mountains aren’t bad either. Whether you live in Coda, visit, or just know folks from your past, you will find the place accommodating, the passions high, and the romance hot and satisfying.

The primary novels in the Coda series are Promises, A to Z, and Strawberries for Dessert. Strawberries for Dessert won 2nd place in the 2010 Rainbow Awards for Contemporary Gay Romance. It was also chosen by both Smart Bitches, Trashy Books and Sarah Frantz of Dear Author as one of the best romances of 2010.

The Coda books are all connected, but they also stand alone. You can find out more about what orders they can be read in here.

My newest books are Between Sinners and Saints (a contemporary about a playboy bartender and his massage therapist) and Song of Oestend (my first non-contemporary – it’s sort of a frontier day alternate universe with a haunted house, killer wraiths, and mild bondage). You can find out more about all of my books here.

I’m also one of the keepers of a naughty little blog called Coffee and Porn in the Morning. I run this site with my friend and fellow author Heidi Cullinan. We have all kinds of fun, pervy pictures, and ebook giveaways every Friday. Please check us out!

Thanks to everybody for stopping by! Be sure to check out the other authors on the Meet an Author Blog Hop. Click on the icon at the top of this post to be taken back to Lisa Sanchez’s blog, or follow some of the links below.
