For Those Who Are Wondering…

Matt and Jared had a lovely Christmas, and are now cuddled up on the couch watching the game. Things aren’t as tense as they were when their teams played a couple of weeks ago. While Jared and I would never give up on our Broncos, we’re also realistic about our chances. If and when the Broncos are eliminated, we’ll side with Matt and be Chiefs fans for the postseason. (Just like Matt sided with us when the tables were turned last year.)

My family also had a wonderful Christmas, although we were short a brother-in-law. Hubby gave me the #1 item on my wish list — a new heavy duty sewing machine. I can’t wait to try it out, but it’ll have to wait until 2017, because first thing tomorrow morning, DD and I will begin the long drive to Louisiana to visit family.

The longer I’m away from Twitter, the less I miss it, but the boredom of driving through Kansas will be the real test. 😉

To everybody out there — whatever or however you celebrate this time of year, I hope it’s full of happiness, love, and joy.

Merry Christmas, from Matt, Jared, and me.

When My Broncos Win, You Win! (Excerpt from Winter Oranges)

The Broncos play the Chiefs twice each season (not counting the possibility of meeting in the postseason), and each time, I think about Matt and Jared. I always imagine them in their house, or maybe over at Zach and Angelo’s, practically giddy as kickoff approaches. And I always feel like there should be a way to share that excitement on Twitter. But how? Matt and Jared have a standing bet (you can read the details in Shotgun), but how does that translate to a game between me and the people on Twitter? If Jared wins, we get pictures of hot cops, and if Matt wins we get… pictures of hot math teachers?

18d8251c-bd6b-4dd5-b4a0-d0fbaaeb0b4e-620x474Pietro Boselli aside (and thanks to Carter for that info!), that doesn’t seem like a great plan.

Yesterday, a couple of hours before kickoff, I tossed out a comment that if the Broncos won, I’d post an excerpt from Winter Oranges, and if the Chiefs won… well, I wouldn’t. What followed was one of the most exciting games I’ve seen in years. I’ll spare you the replay (although you can see it here). The short version is, the Broncos were down by seven with less than three minutes on the clock. They then scored two touchdowns in the final minute of the game for the win! Jared and I were ecstatic. WinterOranges_400x600

Matt? Well, not so much. He’s a bit surly today, poor guy.

So without further ado, here’s an excerpt from my upcoming Christmas novel, Winter Oranges.

Oh. I guess I do have “further ado” after all. If you have suggestions for future Chiefs/Broncos games (preferably suggestions that do NOT involve me writing short stories), please share them in the comments.

It’s my Author Birthday! Plus, a Brand New Edition of Blind Space Coming Soon!

First of all, I’d like to point out that exactly four years ago today, my very first novel, Promises, was released by Dreamspinner Press. The four intervening years have flown by, and yet at the same time, it feels like it was ages ago that Matt and Jared first appeared in the world. I can’t believe how much has happened in that time. I’m so grateful that Dreamspinner decided to take a chance on me and my debut novel, and I’m grateful to each and every one of you who decided to give it a try.

In celebration of this, I’m giving away some paperbacks of Promises over on my Facebook page. Please leave a comment over there to enter.

In other news, I’ll be self-publishing a few things this year. I’ve been debating for months how much to say about this publicly. I’ll keep it short and sweet and simply say that the old edition of Blind Space is going away. Likewise, Cinder and One More Soldier. But Blind Space is up first. It will be disappearing from book stores very, very soon. In fact, it should have been gone as of yesterday. I’m sure it will take a while for that to happen everywhere, but once it does, I’ll be re-releasing Blind Space on my own. I already have this gorgeous cover.

It has been re-edited. Other than that, there are no major changes, so if you bought the first edition, there is no need to re-buy. But, if you haven’t bought Blind Space yet and are suddenly now interested in reading it, I’d like to ask you very politely to please wait until you can buy this version, with this cover. It should be soon. I’ll post here the minute it’s available.

Again, thanks very much to all of my readers for their ongoing support.
