The BIG Announcement (Some Of) You Have Been Waiting For!

You may have heard rumors. You may have wondered at my vague tweets. I’ve been keeping it under wraps until it was done, but I suppose it’s time to tell the world my dark little secret:

I have finished the sequel to Strawberries for Dessert.

(Insert happy screaming and champagne here.)

You know that last line in Strawberries for Dessert? The one you all keep reminding me of? The truth is, I’ve known the greater story surrounding that line ever since I finished the novel, but for some reason I never felt compelled to write it down. Then, back in October, I rode home from GayRomLit with Carter Quinn, and he convinced me it needed to be done. It was fun revisiting my boys, but nonetheless, this is the last book I have planned for Coda. I have zero intentions of writing further books in the series, so if you love Jon and Cole, make sure you thank Carter Quinn. This book never would have existed if it weren’t for him.

This is a 40k word novella. It’s called Fear, Hope, and Bread Pudding. Unless something completely unexpected happens, it will be available approximately June of 2013. I’ll share more details as they become available.

OMG this post totally made my day! I loved your Coda series but Strawberries for Dessert was my favorite book; Cole and Jonathan are so incredible. I’m so happy that you decided to do a sequel. I will be waiting oh so impatiently but oh so happily for it to be released. Thank you!!! :)

  2. Julia says:

You are, without question, the most coy, the most butter- wouldn’t-melt-in-your-mouth, the most sneaky Santa Claus at the M/M North Pole. All these last few months with your most disloyally loyal, undivertable, check-her-website-once-a-month-just-in-case, rudely, affectionately persistent fans whining and pinging about a sequel, even in the immediate swirl of other new releases no doubt excellent but NOT Cole and Jonathan….and you serenely smiling back “maybe someday, but I just can’t see it any time soon.”

    E — VIL!

    Well Done!

I would comment further on specific vague wavings off, red herrings and genuine simulated disinterest in general, but I have run out of commas.

Wait! This isn’t going to be Cole and Jonathan visiting a cyberpunk adoption agency, is it?

  3. Dennis says:

Yes! YES! YES! A sequel!!!!! If Carter Quinn can persuade you to write a sequel to SFD, maybe, just maybe he can coerce, persuade, bribe, arm twist (you get the picture LOL!) into sequels to the other Coda Books. I can’t believe you’d just abandon such wonderful characters and storylines as you have created with the previous books. So, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that maybe sometime in the future you’ll reconsider your position. I just finished Between Saints and Sinners and like the previous novels, absolutely loved it. I would even welcome a continuation of that storyline as well. Marie, you are such a good writer. Your characters are well developed, multidimensional and are far from being shallow. Your stories also flow extremely well. One only has to read the reviews of your novels to see that. That’s how I initially got hooked. Thank you so much for sharing your Coda world with the rest of us. I can’t wait to read the SFD sequel.

Doing the (( Happy Dance))! I can hardly wait for more of Cole & Jon. I just want to say thank you :) Promises was the first m/m book I read and I’m totally hooked. Marie you are a lovely writer.

  9. Lily Grace says:

You just gave me a heart attack. Seriously. I love all the Coda books, but Strawberries, gosh, I don’t know how many times I’ve read it. It’s just one of those books I reach for whenever I’ve had a bad day, or need something that will really cheer me up. An all-time favorite.
I just want to squish Cole in a huge hug, but I’m sure he’d be absolutely horrified. lol

This is such awesome news! Thanks so much, Marie!

  12. Phoenix Rowe says:

Love it! All the relationships you write about are so diverse and interesting (and damaged and fracked up). This one was such a surprise to me in that I really liked it but if I’d met these two characters on the street I probably wouldn’t have given them a second thought. I found myself glad for the experience of their journey.

  31. Cheryl says:

You tell us this in December, when we have 6 months to wait?! That’s half a year away! We’re going to need a to need a lot of excerpts to get us through.

    • Marie Sexton says:

I know. Sorry. I debated waiting until I had a cover, but I’m not that patient. :-)

      • Cheryl says:

I’m patient with everything except waiting for books to come out. I guess I’ll look at this as a personal growth opportunity.
